ENDANGERED SPECIES SERIES (2019-20)
Silkscreen on museum board
The Endangered Species series is based on Warhol's lesser known 1983 series, commissioned by art collectors and philanthropists Ronald and Freyda Feldman.
The subjects of this work follow the same criteria: a depiction of an animal that is considered vulnerable, endangered, or critically endangered according to data from the IUCN Red List of Endangered Species. However, the photographs sourced are not of the individual, but a stylized representation of that animal; a figurine. The subject is distanced by interpretation, photograph, subversion, celebrity, and pop culture simultaneously.
