LORD GOD BIRD (2020)
Singer 221 Featherweight, transducer, DC motor, linen, label
This installation was part of MFA Thesis Exhibition ARTIFICIAL CURATION.
The machine, dimly lit, runs at a steady pace, the tapping reminiscent of beak on tree trunk. One of the last known recordings of the bird's call vibrates through the body of the machine, powered by the transducer. The machine acts as a capitalist surrogate, a ghost.
It is said about the Ivory billed woodpecker that upon the sight of one, the beauty of it made one say aloud: "Lord God! What a bird!"
